Nestled in the Durbanville Wine Valley, Nitída is a family-owned boutique estate producing Wine of Origin Cape Town wines from just 16 hectares.
What we make here is small by design — and that smallness is precisely the point.
Awards have found us, though we have never chased them. What we have always chased is
something quieter and harder to define: the kind of wine that feels considered from the
first pour to the last. For us, being handmade is not a technique. It is an attitude —
a daily commitment to thoughtful decisions in the vineyard, minimal intervention in the
cellar, and an abiding respect for what each vintage is trying to say.
We believe beautiful wines are grown before they are made. Every detail along the
journey from vine to bottle is treated with the same care — not because it is expected of us,
but because we cannot imagine doing it any other way.

When the Veller family acquired what was then the smallest farm in Durbanville in 1990, there was no grand plan.
Bernhard, a qualified engineer, took two weeks off work in 1992 to plant a vineyard.
With the modest intention of producing a few barrels of wine.
Three years later, that wine won a Gold Medal for Sauvignon Blanc.
By 2001, Nitída had been recognised as a benchmark Semillon producer.
The estate had quietly, unhurriedly, become something remarkable.
In 2023, Helgard van Schalkwyk joined as winemaker, carrying the Nitída legacy forward with the
same philosophy that has always guided this place —
minimal intervention, a deep sensitivity to our micro-climate,
and an unwavering belief that consistency and craft are what build lasting loyalty.
