BUCHETTA del VINO       WINE WINDOW

Set low in the stone walls of Florence, small arched openings once opened onto
the street like quiet secrets. These are the buchette del vino, wine windows born in the Renaissance, when wine flowed as freely as daily life.

Behind them stood grand palazzi, the fortified homes of noble families who owned vineyards beyond the city walls. From cool cellar rooms, wine was poured directly to passersby, bypassing taverns and many city taxes. Coins slid across smooth stone, flasks were filled, and the wooden door closed again.
A knock, a measure, a brief exchange. Even during times of plague, these windows allowed wine to pass safely from hand to hand.

Today, the buchette del vino remain— small openings in stone, where Florence once poured its history one glass at a time. Here at Nitida we are now building on this history.
