am Shiraz 2005

“Liebe (Jacus’ oldest daughter) joined us on our special planet. We however lost our beloved staffie Tut – maybe one fight too many with a porcupine. Bernhard was invited to join the CWG. Negotiations for the Durbanville Water Pipeline were completed. There was fantastic weather all through the growth-phase and harvest - although the vineyards were still suffering from previous drought years. Bernhard began experimenting with a new white blend and we held our first grape stomp on the farm.”

Tasting Notes

Remember Christmas mince-pies, sweet violets hug deep blackberry fruit, pot pourri with wild mushrooms, cracked pepper and wet forest floor

Winemaker Comments

As usual these grapes were picked from a vineyard on Bloemendal. We have learnt over the years to pick this block at full ripeness, even though the grapes themselves take on a totally stressed look - this is when they perform at their best. We again hand punched the grapes in open fermenters with a 2 week post harvest maceration. 12 months aging in 2nd fill barrels rounds this wine out beautifully.
