ak Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

“Thanks to healthy vineyards and helpful weather, this harvest lives in our memories as the best and easiest harvest ever including our first Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the new plantings. Our Club and Jacus both celebrated their 10th birthdays with Nitida. Warren Swaffield took over Cassia. We won the inaugural “Best Producer” Trophy for the most awarded wines at the Michelangelo Awards. We appointed Kathy White as our new Johannesburg agent. Bernhard’s Nitida Decorus Sauvignon Blanc received the highest bid for an unwooded white at the CWG Auction. New labels for our standard range of wines.”

Tasting Notes

Moulin Rouge re-enacted. Suggestively voluptuous cocoa, red currents and cranberries enveloping masculin pencil shavings, polished leather and cherry tobacco.

Winemaker Comments

Stunning! Stunning! Stunning! The grapes that we are getting from our bottom vineyards are stunning. There was a little worry with regards to uneven ripeness, but an intense green harvest corrected that. The Cabenet was planted on special rootstock to ensure an early ripeness in our cool climate, and with harvest the berries were perfectly ripe, even the stems of the bunches were a perfect dark red. The wine was fermented in open fermenters with a combination of punchdowns, pumpovers and “delestages” to extract the lovely, elegant Durbanville tannin. After fermentation the wine spent another 4 weeks on the skins before we pressed and racked it to barrels. The wine was matured for 12 moths in 1st, 2nd and 3rd fill French oak.
