ad Club Select Sauvignon Blanc 2010
““Fabulous weather made up for a mechanically challenging harvest. The incredibly cool February gave us another brilliant Sauvignon Blanc. Even the slight heat wave in March was useful for ripening the reds conveniently balanced by light rains which spaced our cultivar pickings nicely. The year brings a new Chardonnay and a very exciting “white” MCC (launch 2011) into the range. Bernhard bought 3 new tanks which somewhat eased RJ’s juggling act with cellar space. Kerry joined our team in February and Version2 of our Nitida website went live.””
Tasting Notes
“Bliksems mooi wyn!” Mineral crispness from nettles with Provence herbs, Bramley apples and prickly pear fruit. Long clean Seville oranges and lime “to go”.
Winemaker Comments
This growing season was particularly dry, ensuring healthy grapes and just enough stress to add to the complexity of flavours. Canopy management consisted of a bit of leaf break on the east side (morning sunshine) to encourage development of fruity thiols while protecting our resident pyrazines from the harsh afternoon (western) sun. We picked from a variety of vineyards in 7 different cool climate sites, plus we picked in two time slots, at different degrees of ripeness and the healthy grapes meant we could allow 24 hours skin contact - all contributing to a wide spectrum of flavours. The year allowed us to make our favourite more pyrazine style sauvignon blanc which holds well with good acids. The Club Select comes from a tank selection and blending of 2 tanks out of the 2010 sauvignon blanc. In selection we were particularly looking for tanks which expressed a rather purist, style of sauvignon blanc reflecting Durbanville cool climate characteristics.
