“What an unforgettable harvest. Everything looked spectacular until it rained and didn’t stop leaving us with hectically low yields and a beautiful Noble Late Harvest Semillon – all this while dodging Eskom curve-balls. A harvest where teamwork and resolve were the hero’s of the day – making magic out of very difficult circumstances. We made and planted our first Riesling and and an especially lovely yummy Cabernet. To add to the fruitfulness for the year, Kerry and Chris were blessed with a small Genevieve.”
Tasting Notes
A wine that bursts with character from the nose to the palate, a first impression of flinty, mineral nettles (hinting of granadilla) followed by a mouth full of old fashioned, white dessert peaches, juicy pear, kiwis and spanspek, with a lovely lingering capsicum finish.
Winemaker Comments
Like last year, we were challenged by rain during harvest. Repeated cycles of downpours and drying out gave us a wider than ususal range of ripeness in our grapes and maybe even taught us that our pyrazine flavours last longer than we thought in the grapes. Coming from higher ballings, we have a vintage with fuller mouth feel and an impression of fruit sweetness - rather tropical - without sacrificing the pyrazine aspects (expect these capsicum and asparagus components to become more of a feature as the wine develops). Another lovely sauvignon blanc year proving to be very popular with our customers. The Club select is made as usual from a small selected batch, specially blended for its fuller purist capsicum character. We are careful to only use very small batches for these special bottlings so as not to devalue the flavours of our main standard range, giving us just 80 cases of this truly wonderful wine.
