ad Club Select Sauvignon Blanc 2011
“"In summary, 2011 was the “dri...est” harvest ever, it was the “earli...est” Nitida harvest ever (first grapes 18th January 2011) and we worked the “most....est grapes on one day” ever (12 tons of sauvignon blanc and shiraz). It was also an extremely confusing harvest. The grapes behaved completely differently in the cellar to what we anticipated – fortunately all in a really good way. Finally it felt like a super happy harvest. RJ and our CWG protégé, Sacha, got on like a house on fire and great grapes added to the daily pleasure. Walk into such a gorgeous smelling “office” every morning totally adds to anyone’s day."”
Tasting Notes
Flawless understated perfect. Sophisticated greengage and quince evolve smoothly around elderflower. Lemon Thyme and flinty nettles. Sharing optional. Only with 'soul food' or good friends.
Winemaker Comments
This year was the earliest start to the Sauvignon blanc harvest in Nitida history, due to a very hot summer, with the first heat wave hitting at the end of January. No rain since the beginning of December (which lasted the entire harvest, another first!) also influenced our decision for an early After almost half of the Sauvignon blanc was in, we took a short break to get some riper flavours and to make some space in our, very tricky to manage, small cellar. The vineyard were managed to enhance fruit development during the ripening stage by opening up the canopy to enhance sun exposure and thus also ensuring healthy grapes. We picked grapes from 9 different sites and 18 different batches. All the batches were kept separate until blending started. The 2011 Sauvignon blancs are beautifully rounded showing lots of fruit now, but will develop that typical canned pea’s character as the wine ages. Drink now and for the next 10 years or forever be thirsty.
The Club select is made as usual from a small selecte
